Spring is rapidly coming into its own, and snowdrops appeared from under the snow in the Summer Garden.
Botanical scientists call one genus Galantus of the Amaryllis family “snowdrops”. The name of the genus is formed from the Latinized Greek words “gala” – milky and “anthos” – flower, according to the white color of flowers. In total, there are 19 species in the genus Galantus, of which two are used in horticulture.

In the Summer Garden, the snow-white snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis L.) bloomed in the mountains of Europe. In garden culture, since 1500, it has been used for flower plantings in flower beds. Low (up to 10 cm) perennial bulbous plant with linear leaves. The flowers are white with a green spot, drooping with a pleasant aroma. Blooms earlier than other snowdrops. Flowering time depends on weather conditions and can last a month.

Enjoy your walks in the gardens of the Russian Museum. We remind you that every year on April 1, the gardens are closed for drying and will open on May 1.
