FENCE AT THE MONUMENT I.A. KRYLOVA IN THE SUMMER GARDEN \nThe correct answer is a monument to I.A. Krylov was surrounded by a metal fence to avoid damage to the bronze bas-reliefs of the pedestal.<\/h4>\n
After the grand opening of the monument in May 1855, many citizens wanted to see a sculpture of a Russian fabulist installed in the Summer Garden. The audience came to inspect the monument one by one, in pairs, companies, families with children. Group visits were also organized. The photographs show the permission of the Empress Alexandra Fedorovna to be examined by the pupils of the St. Catherine the monument I.A. Krylov in the Summer Garden. The document is dated June 28, 1855.<\/h4>\n
Among the public who wanted to see the monument were those who touched the bronze figures of animals with their hands and even touched with sticks. With a large crowd of garden workers, it turned out to be not enough to keep order. Therefore, already on June 18, 1855, the Court Office asked the Ober-Police Chief of St. Petersburg to install a sentry from the police team at the monument to Krylov. This measure was temporary, as it is written in the document: “henceforth, until the lattice is arranged around the monument.” The manufacture of the fence around the monument lasted for several years. And only in the early 1860s it was finally installed. The fence at least slightly protected the bronze bas-reliefs of the pedestal from the curious public.<\/h4>\n
Although there were losses. It is not known when a frog in the beak of a crane lost a fragment of its paw. But since that time this crippled figure is among the animals depicted by P. Klodt on the bas-relief of the monument.<\/h4>\n
