The beginning of July in the Mikhailovsky Garden, Japanese Spirea (Spiraea japonica L.f.) bloomed. The generic name goes back to the Greek word ‘speira’, which means bending. In many species of spiraea shoots are gracefully curved. The species name is Japanese, because the natural range of this plant covers Japan, China and Korea. In natural populations there are many varieties of this species, which allowed gardeners to breed a huge number of different varieties.

Japanese Spirea is a very decorative shrub with long flowering. If you cut the peduncles that have faded in time, then the plant blooms remontantly.

Spirea is a wonderful honey plant, so there is always bustle and buzz around a flowering bush.
We remind you. There are five days left until the Mikhailovsky Garden opens.
