In April, our group posted a post about the article “Green Island” by Eduard Arenin, which was published in the Smena newspaper for June 1972. The article covered the fate of the trees in the Summer Garden.

Today we continue to acquaint you with the articles by Eduard Arenin, which were published in the Smena newspaper in 1972. The article is called “The Buried Museum” and it tells about the summer of 1941, when the marble sculpture of the Summer Garden was hidden. The main character of this article is the sculptor-restorer Georgy Alexandrovich Simonson. Under his leadership, the sculpture was sheltered. Unfortunately, Georgy Alexandrovich died during the blockade of Leningrad. But thanks to his efforts and the work of the other employees of the Summer Garden, the sculpture was preserved. In 1945, she was removed from an earthen shelter. After restoration, marble sculptures again adorned the alleys of the Summer Garden.

Enjoy your walks in the gardens of the Russian Museum. As you walk along the garden alleys, remember those who preserved the beauty of the gardens for us.
