Now in the bosquet of the Red Garden, visitors are attracted by a garden bed on which red-leaved plants grow. This is Amaranth tricolor – Amaranthus tricolor L. The name of the plant comes from the Greek words: “a” – “not”, “maraino” – “wither” and “anthos” – “flower”. Literally means “unfading flower”. Dried amaranth can retain its shape for 3-4 months, so it is often dried for the winter. For this, the people called amaranth “people’s winter friend”. In a number of countries (especially in East Asia) Amaranthus tricolor is cultivated as a vegetable plant.
