The small swampy river Lebedinka, flowing between the Moika and the Neva, was in 1711-1719. cleared, deepened and renamed into the Summer Canal or the Summer Garden Canal. After a while, swans from the artificial ponds of the Summer Garden settled there and the canal was renamed the Lebyazhya Canal. By 1733, four wooden bridges were thrown across the Lebyazhya Canal, and its banks were reinforced with a tree. In 1799, according to the project of architect. GP Pilnikov, the right bank of the canal from the side of the Summer Garden was decorated with a stone terrace. In 1953-1956. the bottom of the canal was deepened, the banks were faced with granite, the slopes were covered with sod. The length of the Swan Canal is 648 m, the width is 8 m, and the depth is 1 m; two bridges are thrown across it – Verkhniy Lebyazhy and Nizhniy Lebyazhy.<\/h4>\n
