In 1770-1784, the Summer Garden was surrounded by a fence on the Neva side. Academician I. E. Grabar wrote about it: \u201cWe do not know in Europe a lattice that would be composed of such amazing simplicity and would produce such a solemn and majestic impression.\u201d The name of its creator is the subject of scientific discussions even today (architects Yu. Felten, I. Fok and P. Egorov are among the possible authors). The construction of the embankment and the installation of the fence did not violate the artistic unity of the garden with the river. The design and scale of the fence gives the composition of the garden a formal and finished look.<\/h4>\n
