The annual event “Titmouse Day” was held in the Summer Garden of the Russian Museum

The annual environmental festival “Titmouse Day” was held in the Summer Garden. It was established on the initiative of the Russian Union for the Protection of Birds to draw attention to the need to protect and preserve birds wintering in northern latitudes: tits, blue tits, bullfinches, jays and other birds.

The participants of the event were pupils of the MDO “Kindergarten No. 8” from the village of Ropsha and students of the State Budgetary Educational Institution School No. 371 named after Hero of the Russian Federation E.N. Zinichev of the Moscow District. The children learned about the birds wintering in the gardens of the Russian Museum, their features and feeding rules, and also saw the birds’ nests.

Senior researcher of the ornithology laboratory of the Zoological Institute, candidate of biological sciences Vladimir Khrabry and head of the sector for monitoring and recording green spaces of the Russian Museum Gardens, candidate of biological sciences Ekaterina Zhukova told about how to properly prepare for this period, how to make feeders and what you can feed the birds. Young ecologists made tasty “treats” for the birds of the Summer Garden and hung them on the bushes, and also independently poured food into the feeder, created based on historical images.
