Today in BDT will be awarding the winners! Among the nominees is our favorite festival Imperial Gardens of Russia 2017 “AVANGARDENS”, which entered the long list of the Kuryokhin Prize in the category “Festival in the field of contemporary art”! In the evening I will say who got it while we wait for the decision of the jury ….
In 2017, the organizing committee of the Prize. Sergey Kuryohin collected more than 1000 applications from 50 cities of Russia and from abroad. The list of nominees included 74 projects from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Samara and other Russian cities. The most popular were the nominations “Best work of visual art” and “Best curatorial project”. In each of them 13 projects are presented.
A lot of applications for festival projects were received for the selection round of the Prize, therefore the organizing committee of the Prize decided to establish a nomination “Festivals in the field of contemporary art”. The new nomination was the third in popularity: it presents 12 projects from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Arkhangelsk, Vyksa, village. Nikola-Lenivets.
The long list includes works that represent an innovative approach in expressing the artist’s intention, reflect the vector of development, future directions and tendencies of contemporary art.
This year the competition is held in the following categories:
Grand Prix “Pop Mechanics”
(performance, a synthetic project, possibly with the participation of a live musical component)
“The best curator project”
“The best work of visual art” (installation, object, painting, sculpture)
“The best media object” (video art, cinema, animation)
“Art in public space” (projects of public art, land art, graffiti)
“Festival in the field of contemporary art”
“The best text about contemporary art” (both published and not published, a prize for journalists, critics and art critics).
Honorary awards:
“Ethno-Mechanics (the best world music project)”
“Electro-Mechanics (project in the field of electronic music)
Special Prize of the French Institute
The winner in the Grand Prix category receives 200,000 rubles. Winners in the categories “Best curator project”, “Best work of visual art”, “Best media object”, “Art in public space”, “The best text about modern culture” receive 100 000 rubles.
Winners in the nominations “Ethno-Mechanics” and “Electro-Mechanics” are awarded with prizes from sponsors.
In April 2018, the projects included in the Long-list of the Prize, can be seen at the exhibition of nominees in the SRC them. Sergei Kuryokhin (St. Petersburg, Ligovsky Ave, 73, 4th floor). The exhibition will begin work on April 17.
The awards ceremony will be held on April 17 in the BDT them. G.A. Tovstonogov. The beginning at 19:00. At the ceremony, the premiere of the ballet production “Sparrow Lake”, created for the music of Sergei Kuryokhin. The choreographer is Maxim Sevagin. For the costumes, the artist is responsible Andrei Bartenev. The director of the Prize is Fedor Kuryokhin.
