Reseda odorata L.
Scallops are cultivated for obtaining essential oils used in perfumery. Earlier, even in ancient Rome, this plant was used as a medicinal plant. In our time, rhese fragrant and reddish yellow are used in folk medicine as a diaphoretic and diuretic and in heart diseases. In Europe they used to make perfume. In Russia, it appears in Peter’s time, but the fashion of Russian gardens on the rezedu appears in the XIX century.
There is information about the use of the roots of yellow reseda (Reseda luteola) to obtain yellow dye articum as far back as the first millennium BC, perhaps the dye from the reseda was obtained earlier than the dyes of other widespread dye plants, wades and madder. Until the beginning of the twentieth century parts of the plant were used to produce a dye used in the manufacture of paints and in the textile industry, the use of this dye virtually ceased after the appearance of cheap synthetic paints. Currently used only as a dye for silk.
Despite the modest flowers, many species are widely cultivated as decorative, perhaps because of the published fragrance.
Many species are good honey plants.
Plants can be grown both in penumbra and in the sun. It is desirable that the soil is alkaline, sufficiently fertile, well drained.
