LENINGRAD VICTORY DAY
January 27, 1944 – Day of the military glory of Russia.
On this day, Soviet troops completely liberated the city of Leningrad from blockade by its Nazi troops. In honor of the victory in Leningrad, twenty-four artillery salvoes of 324 guns were fired.
In May 1944, the Summer Garden was open to visitors. Here is how the senior gardener P.K. Lobanov: “With the onset of spring, children from kindergartens began to attend the Summer Garden, who, little understanding of what had happened, frolic merrily on the playground by Grandfather Krylov, furtively ran into the lawns and tear only what appeared to be yellow flowers of dandelion, which was strictly forbidden. But, seeing me, the children all immediately ran to me and asked me to let them tear dandelions. This happened almost every day. Then we decided the following: the children were divided into dozens, from every ten stood out a man who was allowed to go to the lawn, pick ten flowers and distribute to his group. How much noise and screaming happened at this ceremony! ”
