In the year of the 60th anniversary of Valentina Tereshkova’s flight into space, the Russian Museum donated oak seedlings of Peter the Great to Yaroslavl.

60 years ago, the world’s first flight of a woman into space took place. In memory of this historic event, the Russian Museum sent seedlings of Peter the Great oak to the homeland of Valentina Tereshkova.

The action took place within the framework of the All-Russian Oakwood of Emperor Peter the Great program. Oak trees will be planted on September 1 at the solemn line at the Secondary School No. 32 named after V.V. Tereshkova (Yaroslavl).

The seedlings, prepared for transportation and planting by the specialists of the Russian Museum, were today handed over to the vice-president of the foundation V.V. Tereshkova Elena Tereshkova in the Summer Garden.
The event was attended by the chief curator of the gardens of the Russian Museum Alexander Alekseeva.
The seedlings have individual numbers, their origin from a natural monument is confirmed by special certificates.

As part of the Program, 462 seedlings have already been planted in more than 60 places in Russia and abroad, including: Moscow, Tver, Belgorod, Orel, Yaroslavl, Vologda, Kazan, Saransk, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Tallinn (Estonia), Yerevan (Armenia) ), Almere (Netherlands), Lynbrook (Great Britain), Tashkent (Uzbekistan). All plants are included in the “Register of hereditary seedlings” and marked on an interactive map.

In 2023, the Russian Museum joined the events dedicated to the Year of the Teacher, Pedagogue and Mentorship. In the Program “All-Russian Oakwood of Emperor Peter the Great” a special role is assigned to organizations that form the younger generation: schools, libraries, educational centers, etc. Such actions are designed to emphasize the importance of the work of teachers, the role of mentoring and the value of educational institutions.
