Autumn is the time when acorns fall from oak trees. Having fallen to the ground, the acorn begins to produce a root, and in the spring a young oak sprout appears from it. An oak that in a few decades will turn into a majestic tree.

Pupils of the Boarding School No. 1 named after K. K. Grot for children with visual impairments visited the Summer Garden and took part in the autumn festival “Oak’s Birthday”, dedicated to the tree – a monument of living nature.
The children got acquainted with acorns and oaks of different ages – from a one-year-old seedling to a five-year-old one, and were able to compare them with the mighty trunk of the historical century-old Peter the Great oak.

The chief keeper of the gardens of the Russian Museum, Alexandra Alekseeva, told the children about the features of the correct germination of acorns, after which they independently planted acorns in pots to grow trees in their own school.

The schoolchildren also got acquainted with the assortment of aromatic herbs of the bosquet “Red Garden”. They learned which plants emit a pleasant aroma, which are medicinal, and which are used in cooking. The children were able to touch them, feel and understand all the features and differences.
