WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE HIDDEN LIFE OF GARDENS? COME TO US!
The lecture hall of the Mikhailovsky Castle last Saturday again became an object of attraction for people interested in history, architecture and landscape design.
The audience listened to the first author’s lecture from the series “The Hidden Life of the Gardens of the Russian Museum” from the head of the sector for accounting and monitoring of green spaces, candidate of biological sciences Ekaterina Alekseevna Zhukova.
Before the start of the speech, Ekaterina briefly spoke about the creation of the Summer and Mikhailovsky gardens, about the peculiarities of the work of people of various specialties involved in maintaining green spaces, and also raised the issue of past restorations of the Summer Garden.
“I would like to tell you about the history of landscape gardening art, its formation and, perhaps, together with you answer the question “Is there a Russian style in gardening?”, But over time, landscape gardens began to prevail in landscape gardening art, as one of the main forms,” the lecturer noted.
In the main part of the lecture, the participants learned about the projects and history of the restoration of the Summer Garden throughout its existence. Particular attention was paid to the last restoration of 2009-2012, during which multiple excavations of a previously unexplored water system and fountain complex were carried out, the study of old-growth trees and their further preservation in the garden.
At the end of her speech, Ekaterina Alekseevna thanked the audience and noted that in future lectures she would dwell on each point in more detail.
Well, we remind you that the cycle of lectures “The Hidden Life of the Gardens of the Russian Museum” will be held on Saturdays until April of this year, and in May and June there will be author’s tours of the gardens.
