Today at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Center as part of the XXII INTERNATIONAL FORUM “ECOLOGY OF THE BIG CITY”. A conference was held on the topic “Ecology of Historical Gardens and Parks: Challenges, Threats in the Conditions of Modern Megacities”.

Olga Vladislavovna Taratynova, Director of the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum Reserve, Chairman of the Board of the Association for the Revival of Historical Gardens and Parks, delivered a welcoming speech to the participants before the start of the conference.
In her speech, she noted that the main task of the conference is to preserve historical gardens and parks in the modern environment of the metropolis.

The gardens of the Russian Museum were presented by Ekaterina Zhukova, Ph.D., Head of the Sector for Accounting and Monitoring of Green Plantings in the Gardens of the Russian Museum, with a report on the topic “Preservation of old-growth trees in the gardens of the Russian Museum as the most valuable gene pool in modern metropolis conditions”.

In her speech, Ekaterina emphasized the importance of preserving green spaces in the very center of St. Petersburg, spoke about the difficulties of preserving old-growth trees that prevail in the Summer and Mikhailovsky gardens, and drew attention to the fact that among them there are several hundred trees aged 250-300 years and older.
