(Convallaria majalis of the lily of the valley family), in May sharp awl-shaped sprouts of lily of the valley appear in sunny forest glades and hillsides, sometimes they literally pierce the fallen leaves. After a few days, the leaves unfold, and a little later peduncles grow, on which white, bell-like flowers bloom. Lily of the valley is a perennial plant with a creeping rhizome. Contrary to popular belief, lily of the valley is not included in the Red Book of Nature of the Leningrad Region. Another myth: by collecting lilies of the valley, we destroy the plants. In fact, this flower reproduces mainly vegetatively – by creeping rhizomes, although large red berries ripen in the lily of the valley in the fall.
