The photographs show the garden (northern) facade of the Mikhailovsky Palace, in front of which there is a berm. This structure poured from the ground was designed by Karl Rossi for a more convenient exit from their palace.
The staircase of the granite porch ends at the berm, and from it three granite staircases and two bulk ramps lead to the garden. This design made it possible to avoid a long staircase and make the transition from the basement of the palace to the garden smooth.
During the time of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich, the berm was decorated with two cannons.
Currently, the berm of the Mikhailovsky Palace is used for various events.
