NOT JASMINE, BUT MOUNTAIN!
Mock orange is a genus of shrubs from the Hydrangeaceae family. The main thing that this wonderful shrub can boast of is large, up to 4.5 cm in diameter, fragrant white flowers. They can be single, semi-double or double.
Due to the pronounced sweetish aroma of the flowers and similarity to southern jasmine, mock orange is often called garden jasmine. Although the flowers of some varieties smell like strawberries, there are varieties with a vanilla scent, and there are varieties without the smell.
The Russian name of the genus Chubushnik comes from the word “chubuk” – a wooden hollow tube on which a tobacco pipe was placed; chubushnik was previously called “chubuchnik”, since their stems were used to make chibouks.
Botanists count about 70 species of these deciduous shrubs with evergreen leaves or leaves that fall in winter.
Now the active flowering of mock orange can be observed in the Summer Garden.
We are waiting for you for a walk through the gardens of the Russian Museum.
