ORANGE – this word is borrowed from the French language, from the word “orange” which means orange. Because originally, these structures served for the winter preservation of subtropical plants. If we turn to the historical and etymological dictionary of the modern Russian language P.Ya. Chernov, then “Orangery” – “greenhouse” – “a closed glazed room with controlled air temperature for growing southern plants and for out-of-season production of fruits, vegetables and flowers.” Often the facades of greenhouses were decorated with columns, pilasters, rustic stone, stucco molding, and figured windows. Then this building became a decoration of the garden, and not just an outbuilding.

Now only one Small wooden greenhouse has been recreated in the Summer Garden. This facility is used for winter storage of oranges, lemons, laurels, oranges and other plants. All of these plants are used for summer garden decoration.

In the 18th century, there were many more greenhouses, greenhouses and conservatories on the territory of the Summer Garden.
