We want to share photos of Irina Kondratieva, our assistant – a volunteer, an amateur ornithologist, a member of the ornithological society of St. Petersburg. She spent a lot of time to capture birds wintering in the gardens of the Russian Museum.
In winter, in the gardens you can see mainly 5 species of birds. It is the ubiquitous blue pigeon and the crow. Of the small birds in the gardens they winter: a house sparrow, a great tit, a blue tit. Often on tree trunks you can see a pika and a nuthatch. From a certain period in winter gardens you can observe waxwings, bullfinches.

REMEMBER ONCE REMEMBER THAN YOU CAN FEED BIRDS.

The best food for birds is raw sunflower seeds (husked or peeled), dried berries (mountain ash, hawthorn), nuts.
In cold weather it is recommended to feed the birds with lard without salt.
