Celebrations in early May in the gardens and parks of St. Petersburg became popular at the end of the XIX century. The townspeople, tired of the long winter, happily went out into the spring Summer Garden. A light green-yellow haze enveloping the trees of the garden, birdsong, a warm breeze – all had a good rest.

In Soviet times, May celebrations turned into a celebration of labor and peace. Employees and workers, students and schoolchildren together carried posters and flags at the May Day demonstration. From a high rostrum came: “Let’s greet the workers of the N-th plant, who produced 200 tractors in excess of the plan. Keep it up, comrades! ” Passing columns shouted: “Hurray !!!”. After the demonstration, throwing posters and banners into the truck, everyone was in a hurry to use an extra day off. And since the demonstration ended on Khalturin Street, many went for a walk to the Summer Garden according to the old, still pre-revolutionary, tradition.

Happy holiday, dear subscribers. Unfortunately, this year the gardens of the Russian Museum cannot accept you for the May holidays, but everything will pass, and bright times will come.

Be healthy. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
