TULIPS bloom in the gardens (Tulip)
Spring bulbous plant of the lily family.

The mention of the tulip can be found in the poems of Omar Khayyam (XII century). The flower was then called “dulbash”, from “turban” (the headdress of Muslims).
There is a legend about a Persian sultan in love with a girl. Having received false news of her death, distraught with grief, he fell to his death. In the place where his blood was shed, scarlet tulips grew.
It is believed that the tulip is a symbol of love and happiness.

Tulip bulbs were first brought to Russia from Holland under Peter the Great in 1702.
