Today in the Summer Garden there was a traditional campaign for the installation of artificial nests for birds – “The Starlings Have Arrived”.

The event is held annually in the gardens of the Russian Museum and allows the birds that have returned after wintering to create favorable conditions for further breeding, because right now the birds are returning to their native lands and forming new families. Convenient nesting sites and closing gardens certainly contribute to this process. “International Bird Day” is celebrated all over the world on April 1, but tomorrow our gardens will be closed for drying until May 1, which is why ornithologists call this month for birds – “honey”.

Ornithologist, candidate of biological sciences Maria Berezantseva told the guests of the event about the birds that annually inhabit the territory of our gardens, and also spoke about various “bird houses” (titmouses, birdhouses, etc.). Together with the museum staff, she showed a collection of bird nests and eggs from the gardens of the Russian Museum, spoke about their differences and features.

Professional arborist Roman Gabasov replaced the old titmouse with a new one on the Ash tree trunk. At the end of the holiday, employees of the Center for Children’s Pedagogy of the Russian Museum held a master class for children on creating the “Bird of Happiness”.

This year, the gardens were assisted by the NEXTFORM Furniture Factory company, whose employees happily made 15 tit boxes for the gardens. The company is one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the North-West region of Russia.

We thank each participant of this action and we are waiting for everyone in the garden on May 1. Continue to follow the news on our social networks, where we will report daily on events in the gardens of the Russian Museum.
