Spring is rapidly coming into its own; the first snowdrops have begun to appear from under the snow in the Summer Garden.

Botanists call galanthus “snowdrops”. This name is derived from the Greek words “gala” – milky and “anthos” – flower. In garden culture, the plant has been used since 1500 for bouquet plantings in flower beds.

A low, perennial bulbous plant with linear leaves. The flowers are white with a green spot, drooping, with a pleasant aroma.

Snowdrops are one of the first to bloom, and their flowering time depends on weather conditions. Flowering can continue for a month.
