A heated room equipped in a house or attached to it, which is used for growing ornamental plants throughout the year, is called a winter garden.

This structure is usually a room with a different glazing area. These can only be large vertical windows, or a glass dome is added to the windows on top.

The first winter gardens appear in Western Europe in the 18th century. In St. Petersburg, winter gardens were started by the nobles of Catherine’s time. A luxurious winter garden was created in the Tauride Palace in 1791. Its area was over 2,200 square meters.

Currently, the gardens of the Russian Museum include a winter garden, which is located in the interiors of the Marble Palace.
