Sage meadow – Salvia pratensis L.

The name comes from medieval medical Latin: “salvia” – healing power, from “salvus” – healthy. Ancient Romans and Arabs used sage for healing from ailments, aromatization of food, wine and water.

In cooking it is used in dry and dried form as a condiment to soups, sauces, broths, cheeses, pickled vegetables. Suitable for meat, vegetable and fish dishes, used for making salads, home-made pies.

In medicine it has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, tonic, diuretic, spasmolytic, wound-healing properties.
